IXIASOFT announces the general availability of TEXTML Server v4

IXIASOFT provides access to its new multi-platform native XML database to all customers

Montreal, Canada- IXIASOFT, the XML content management software market leader, announced today the general availability of TEXTML Server v4.1. While TEXTML Server v4 has already been deployed and integrated by various OEM partners and used by IXIASOFT's DITA CMS customers for the last 4 years, IXIASOFT now introduces their latest product release to all customers.

TEXTML Server is an XML database and search engine used to develop scalable, flexible and robust XML content management applications. The main objectives with this major product re-design were to provide customers with a multi-platform version of TEXTML Server while improving overall performance - both of which were achieved.

Key features of TEXTML Server available in v4.1 include:

Multi-platform
A key feature of the re-design: TEXTML Server now runs in either Windows or Linux environments. Previously, TEXTML Server was a Windows-only platform which reduced its potential market reach. As a result, TEXTML Server v4 is no longer a COM+ component in Windows which greatly facilitates installation and deployment.

New transactional storage with journaling system
The TEXTML Server document base storage is now fully transactional from the bottom up. One of the advantages of having a transactional document base is to provide customers with an efficient failover mechanism should there be a machine failure or an interruption of services. Therefore, it would take less than five minutes to recover a document base in such a scenario.

Compliant with clustering systems and live backups
TEXTML Server may be deployed in a cluster environment (such as Windows Clustering System) to provide fault tolerance and also supports live backups - without any interruptions of service.

Custom properties
This new feature allows application developers to add custom properties (Metadata) to any documents and may later be used as search criteria. This feature also enables applications to quickly modify or retrieve specific information about the document without having to modify the entire document. For example: update the status of a document.

Improved indexes
Various enhancements were developed to improve TEXTML Server indexes including:

• Language-aware indexes: by supporting international character sets within the indexes, customers may now choose to make their indexes case or accent sensitive giving them greater flexibility
• Synchronous indexes: it is now possible to name indexes as "synchronous" (where the application instantaneously returns the results for documents that have just been modified or as "asynchronous" (where documents which have just been modified appear in the search results after a short delay).
• Grouping of search results: after a search, the application is now able to query the server and group the results according to specified index values. This is a powerful feature allowing users to easily process and refine their search results.
