Add an element to a map

This procedure adds a DITA element directly into a map.

  • The map must be locked.
  • Map elements must be displayed

Use this procedure to add any of the elements defined in your map's DTD directly to your DITA map. For example, if you are using a template that supports bookmaps, you could add elements such as <chapter> and <section>.

You can also use this procedure to add topic elements directly to a map, if you are using the topic stub feature.

  1. Open the map in the DITA Map view.
  2. Highlight the map element where you want to insert the new element.
  3. Right-click the element and select Insert Element > elementname from the menu
where elementname is one of the selections on the menu: topicref, for example.
Your selected element is inserted into the map.
If you want to add text to the element or specify its attribute values, you can do this using the Properties view.
