Edit a topic

The Edit procedure locks and opens a topic at the same time.

The document must not be locked by another user.

Use Edit to save yourself a step when you want to work on a topic that is not locked.

Topics can be opened for editing from almost any view in the DITA Perspective, as long as they are in a state that allows editing. You cannot, for example, edit a topic that is in the review state (or its equivalent in your workflow).

You can have more than one topic open in the XML editor at a time. You can switch from one topic to another by clicking the tab with the topic title.

This function is available from all views.

To edit a topic:

Right-click the topic and select Edit from the menu.
You can select several documents by holding down CTRL or SHIFT and clicking the documents.
The document is locked and opens in your default XML editor.
