Start the localization process

Localization begins by creating a copy of the map and its contents in the localization area, one for each of the target languages.

You can localize a map or topic in the Authoring cycle. When you localize a map, all of the topics and images that it contains (including referred topics) are also localized. When you localize a topic, its images and referred topics are also localized.
Note: You cannot localize a snapshot directly. To localize a snapshot, first publish the snapshot and then run the select Localization > Localize... command on the published version of the snapshot.
During localization, if auto-translation is enabled, the CCMS will try to auto-translate as much of the topics as possible based on previous translations of the same topic.
Note: By default, auto-translation is always enabled in the concurrent localization method. It is optional in the sequential localization method. See your Administrator to know which method you are using and whether auto-translation is enabled.

The localization process requires a substantial amount of system resources. If you are localizing several maps in many different languages you may notice an impact on your computer's performance.

  1. Search for the map or topic in the Authoring cycle to localize.
  2. In the Search Results view, right-click the required map or topic and select Localization > Localize... from the menu.
The Select Languages dialog appears. If the map is in one or more projects, all the targeted translation languages in all these projects will be selected by default.
  3. In the Select Languages dialog, select the required language(s).
  4. Click Create.
The Localize dialog appears as copies of the map and its topics are being created in the localization area, one for each of the target languages.
  5. When the localization process is complete, the Localize dialog displays a message telling you that the operation was successful.
  6. Click OK.
The map and its topics now have the status Localization:tb translated (or its equivalent in your workflow).
You must now create:
  • an image localization kit for the graphics, if required
  • a localization kit for the map and its topics
