We all want to create high-quality content with consistent language and voice. Authoring assistance software can be used to support this goal. But how do you properly introduce authoring assistance to your writers? What does it take to gain and keep user acceptance? Just buying software doesn’t work. You must help writers see the benefits of the software and how it will save time and effort.
Many writers rely on powerful checking rules to create consistent and high-quality content. There is no doubt that checking rules can be effective; and of course, “they are all listed in the style guide!” and “writers should have considered them already.” But it is up to the writer to remember and apply these rules, usually once the writing is complete. Authoring assistance, on the other hand, happens in real-time. It checks while the author is writing and in many cases does not even allow the mistake to happen in the first place.
Join Alexander Becker as he highlights some strategies on how to successfully implement an authoring assistance software while ensuring user acceptance. The webinar will allow time for an audience Q & A session.

In an increasingly digitized world, users flood content stores with billions and billions of bits of information. Finding the right result can be like finding a needle in an acre-sized haystack. The solution is taxonomy. In order for information to be easily found, navigation menus need to make sense and your search engine needs to provide the right results. Taxonomy not only provides the backbone for digital navigation, but also powers successful filtering.
But how do you use taxonomy? How might you recognize existing taxonomies at your company? And what can you do to optimize your taxonomies?
Join Amber Swope and Boris Roberto Aguilar as they define taxonomy, demonstrate best practices, and caution pitfalls to avoid. This webinar is designed for users of all levels, from beginners to experts.

Tuesday, August 18, 2020
11:00 AM -12:00 PM (EDT)
Many information developers work in a tactical world focused on tools, and sometimes, methods for producing content. This session will help draw a connection between information development tactical goals, and the highest-level strategic goals and objectives of an organization. Learn ways to connect work to business value, and strengthen the Content Life Cycle (CLC) within the framework of the Project Life Cycle (PLC).
While organizations vary, this presentation focuses on ways others have successfully demonstrated information development value to the business using the PLC tied directly to business requirements and value. We’ll discuss how your CLC fits into the project, how to develop data that speaks to the business goals, and the information development role in making a product project successful. There will be a heavy focus on estimating, benchmarking, and communication. We’ll talk about touchpoints and discipline that provide return on investment (ROI) rather than the content creation process itself.

Agile was a buzzword 10 years ago. Nowadays, most software engineering departments seem to think that they follow agile principles. But often, they just make use of some tools that are provided by methodologies like Scrum, but they do not live up to agile principles. Being a technical writer in an agile setup can be heaven or hell: either you have fantastic teammates who are deeply involved in the work and get input more easily than ever before, or you become extremely frustrated because you are not really part of the game. No one gives you any input, because who needs a written specification, and you never get the documentation ready on time.
Whichever is true for you or if you are just curious about what agile is about and whether you can benefit from agile principles: this webinar has something to offer. You will be provided with practical ideas on how to organize your work and your team in an agile world, how to avoid common pitfalls, and when it might be time to look beyond your technical writing mindset.

Most DITA migration projects aim at saving costs in localization. However, many deployments do not reach the expectations. In this webinar, Dominique Trouche and Henrietta Taylor will review the different reasons why this happens (information model, content quality, localization process, localization provider…) and how to remedy.
Whether you are a content architect, documentation manager, technical writer, or localization manager, whether you are localizing into zillions of languages or only contemplating localization, whether you are working in a large or very small team, there is much to be learned from the experts who have benchmarked plenty of content practices. You will take away many practical ideas that will make your work more efficient and productive, and several new ideas to improve even further.
