Are you a techpub manager having difficulty managing and standardizing technical content provided in multiple formats such as MS Word, FrameMaker, InDesign or some other format? Is your content stored on multiple databases that are not interconnected and managed by other respective departments? Are you cutting and pasting content to create new releases of documents? Does your collaboration and review process consist of passing around PDFs or Word files, then trying to put all the pieces together? If so, it’s probably a good time modernize your documentation process to finally get rid of these inefficiencies and bottlenecks.

How Metso:Outotec Optimizes its Document Process with Structured Content Managed Through a CCMS – Jouni Lehtelä, Metso:Outotec (45 min)
Metso:Outotec’s documentation process was inefficient and overly complex. Prior to its merger with Metso, Outotec produced technical documentation in MS Word for over 260 products and multiple product lines.
As the manuals were in doc-format, subject matter experts would often make a copy of the manual set to add comments, delete content or add text. With multiple reviewers each making their own copy, the technical writer was soon faced with several sets of the manual each containing comments, sometimes contradictory, that needed to be compiled and merged into one coherent document. This process worked, but it was tedious, time consuming and was prone to human errors.
Join Jouni Lehtelä, Senior Technical Documentation Specialist at Metso:Outotec as he shows us how Metso:Outotec optimizes its documentation process by digitizing and structuring its technical content with the help of Etteplan. Jouni will also show us how Metso:Outotec leverages IXIASOFT’s Component Content Management System (CCMS) to create, manage, standardize, collaborate, review and publish personalized content – all from a centralized work environment.
4:10 – 4:55 PM CET
Interactive Discussion Panel – How to Get Management Approval to Reinvent your Documentation Process – Henna Kormu, Sulzer – Bernhard Waage, Ninefeb – Julian Murfitt, Mekon – Caroline Couvrette, IXIASOFT (45 min)
Moving toward digitalization and structured content managed through a centralized CCMS is something you really want to do. You are now faced with the daunting task of securing approvals and support from senior managers, team members and possibly other departments as a whole. But how can you make this happen and where do you even start?
Join Henna Kormu, Development Manager and Product Documentation at Sulzer; Julian Murfitt, CEO at Mekon; Bernhard Waage, Founder of Ninefeb; and Caroline Couvrette, VP Sales and Marketing at IXIASOFT in a special interactive discussion panel where they will share real-life tips and tricks on how to overcome any obstacles you may face when pitching your proposal to senior managers and stakeholders.
Based on years of industry experience, our panelists will also give you guidance on how to build a business case related to efficiency and productivity gains, and how to manage change within your documentation team and other departments.
