We all want to create high-quality content with consistent language and voice. Authoring assistance software can be used to support this goal. But how do you properly introduce authoring assistance to your writers? What does it take to gain and keep user acceptance? Just buying software doesn’t work. You must help writers see the benefits of the software and how it will save time and effort.
Many writers rely on powerful checking rules to create consistent and high-quality content. There is no doubt that checking rules can be effective; and of course, “they are all listed in the style guide!” and “writers should have considered them already.” But it is up to the writer to remember and apply these rules, usually once the writing is complete. Authoring assistance, on the other hand, happens in real-time. It checks while the author is writing and in many cases does not even allow the mistake to happen in the first place.
Join Alexander Becker as he highlights some strategies on how to successfully implement an authoring assistance software while ensuring user acceptance. The webinar will allow time for an audience Q & A session.

In an increasingly digitized world, users flood content stores with billions and billions of bits of information. Finding the right result can be like finding a needle in an acre-sized haystack. The solution is taxonomy. In order for information to be easily found, navigation menus need to make sense and your search engine needs to provide the right results. Taxonomy not only provides the backbone for digital navigation, but also powers successful filtering.
But how do you use taxonomy? How might you recognize existing taxonomies at your company? And what can you do to optimize your taxonomies?
Join Amber Swope and Boris Roberto Aguilar as they define taxonomy, demonstrate best practices, and caution pitfalls to avoid. This webinar is designed for users of all levels, from beginners to experts.

11:00 AM -12:00 PM (EDT)
Many information developers work in a tactical world focused on tools, and sometimes, methods for producing content. This session will help draw a connection between information development tactical goals, and the highest-level strategic goals and objectives of an organization. Learn ways to connect work to business value, and strengthen the Content Life Cycle (CLC) within the framework of the Project Life Cycle (PLC).
While organizations vary, this presentation focuses on ways others have successfully demonstrated information development value to the business using the PLC tied directly to business requirements and value. We’ll discuss how your CLC fits into the project, how to develop data that speaks to the business goals, and the information development role in making a product project successful. There will be a heavy focus on estimating, benchmarking, and communication. We’ll talk about touchpoints and discipline that provide return on investment (ROI) rather than the content creation process itself.

Creating content is a process that involves multiple people with various skills— technical writers, technicians, and product owners. With structured content and topic-based writing, the technical writer can both accelerate the processes and reduce the workload for the other participants.
Designed to handle DITA-compliant content, IXIASOFT CCMS binds together topic-based writing, enables co-content creation, and object and process handling. But how would that look like in your daily job as a technical writer?
This presentation will show several scenarios in which a technical writer creates content, composes, reviews, and generates outputs in the content creation process.

Agile was a buzzword 10 years ago. Nowadays, most software engineering departments seem to think that they follow agile principles. But often, they just make use of some tools that are provided by methodologies like Scrum, but they do not live up to agile principles. Being a technical writer in an agile setup can be heaven or hell: either you have fantastic teammates who are deeply involved in the work and get input more easily than ever before, or you become extremely frustrated because you are not really part of the game. No one gives you any input, because who needs a written specification, and you never get the documentation ready on time.
Whichever is true for you or if you are just curious about what agile is about and whether you can benefit from agile principles: this webinar has something to offer. You will be provided with practical ideas on how to organize your work and your team in an agile world, how to avoid common pitfalls, and when it might be time to look beyond your technical writing mindset.

Most DITA migration projects aim at saving costs in localization. However, many deployments do not reach the expectations. In this webinar, Dominique Trouche and Henrietta Taylor will review the different reasons why this happens (information model, content quality, localization process, localization provider…) and how to remedy.
Whether you are a content architect, documentation manager, technical writer, or localization manager, whether you are localizing into zillions of languages or only contemplating localization, whether you are working in a large or very small team, there is much to be learned from the experts who have benchmarked plenty of content practices. You will take away many practical ideas that will make your work more efficient and productive, and several new ideas to improve even further.

In an ever-evolving, fast-moving marketplace where customer satisfaction and brand loyalty can make or break a product’s adoption, user experience (UX) design is increasingly being perceived as a product differentiator. But what exactly is UX? How can we define and conceive a good UX? What are some proven methodologies for designing best-in-class UX? And what role does documentation, if any, play in the overall UX of a product?
In this IXIAtalks, IXIASOFT UX Designer Solene Carbonel, and Ryffine CEO Frank Miller will share their views on the topic, and discuss how sound UX design principles can be applied to a wide variety of products across industries. Watch Webinar Using Metadata to Deliver Findable Content This webinar aired on: Thursday, December 5th, 2019 Episode 11 The best content in the world
Thursday, December 5th, 2019
The best content in the world is no good if users can’t find it. If an answer is buried in an avalanche of content, it might as well not be there at all. How can you make sure your customers find the answers they need? This episode of IXIAtalks will help you understand how to leverage metadata to make your content searchable and findable, and how to use that same metadata to create a personalized customer experience (CX).
In this episode, Megan Gilhooly of Zoomin and Leigh White of IXIASOFT team up to explain how you can start by designing the optimum content search experience you’d like your customers to have. They will present examples of good and not-so-good taxonomies, and explain what makes them good or not. They will talk about the difference between marketing taxonomies and technical publication taxonomies, and give some tips on planning your taxonomy. The duo will also present methods for personalizing the CX using search weighting.
To make things a bit more concrete, Megan and Leigh will present one example of taxonomy development in the IXIASOFT CCMS and how Zoomin can then leverage that taxonomy metadata to create a faceted search. They will also show how to manage multiple content versions in a taxonomy and control updates.

Nolwenn Kerzreho is IXIASOFT’s technical account manager for EMEA and has over a decade of experience in the technical communication industry. An international speaker and author, Nolwenn helps documentation teams industrialize, rationalize and automate their documentation production to publish to web, mobile and print faster, enhance content consistency, reduce time-to-market and costs within controlled processes.
You can usually find Nolwenn behind her desk, at the IXIASOFT booth or speaking at various industry events, visiting customers around Europe or teaching at University Rennes 2, where she introduced the new curriculum for technical communication in 2012. Based in France, Nolwenn has international work experience in the chemical, Telecom, language, and high-tech industries.
DITA is designed to help writers produce consistent, easy-to-find, easy-to-consume content that is directly tailored to the user’s needs. This talk clarifies the best practices that are baked into the DITA standard: modularity, topic typing, mechanisms for reuse and conditions, single source, specialization…and how these principles impact the way writers design and create content. Technical writers and managers who are new to structured content and DITA will learn how it works in practice. The talk is in a show-and-tell format, and examples include migration samples to DITA “live.”
This presentation highlights the fundamental best practices that are baked into the DITA standard: topic-based modularized content, hazard formatting, topic types, instructions structures, linking them back to ISO standards and other best practices.
The audience should come out of the presentation able to articulate the benefits when designing modular structured standard content and break down those benefits into singular best practices or methods.

Our very own Keith Schengili Roberts, Senior DITA Content Strategist, will speak at the conference.

Time: 3:15-4:15 pm
Keith is IXISOFT’s Senior DITA Content Strategist. Keith is also an award-winning lecturer on Information Architecture at the University of Toronto’s School for Continuing Education. He is the Chair of the OASIS DITA Adoption Committee, and regularly presents at conferences, works with customers. Keith continuously researches how DITA is being used and then shares those results with the community. Keith’s popular industry blog DITAWriter.com has become a focal point on DITA resources.
This presentation is designed as an instructive and funny lesson on what not to do when implementing DITA within a documentation team. The original DITA Worst Practices was very popular at Lavacon 2017, and has proven to resonate with many DITA technical writers and managers who either saw it at Lavacon or in subsequent webinars. Since then, Keith has found new stories that will both entertain and horrify (from a DITA perspective) listeners. ‘I hope that some of these stories will strike a chord with people who may find themselves in similar situations, and give them enough information to change course before they become a “worst practice” story themselves.’
IXIASOFT is proud to be a platinum sponsor at LavaCon 2019.

Subject matter experts (SMEs) are increasingly being asked to contribute more content directly for product documentation. But SMEs are not technical writers. Their work often needs to be corrected for style, terminology usage, and to ensure the message reflects the company brand. What is the solution to this perennial problem?
Join Keith Schengili-Roberts (IXIASOFT) and Philipp Baur (Congree), to discuss why SMEs are increasingly being asked to contribute directly to technical documentation, the typical issues they encounter, and how they can be overcome using an electronic style guide with linguistic intelligence within the IXIASOFT CCMS.

Join Octavian Nadolu during IXIAtalks episode 9 for a step-by-step guide to getting started with Schematron and Schematron Quick Fixes.
Schematron and Schematron QuickFix (SQF) languages can be used to improve efficiency and quality when editing DITA documents. You can define actions that will add complex structure in your documents, or make modifications in multiple places, or actions that will convert a structure into another. These changes are made by keeping the document structure valid and conforming to your project specification, and will help the content writer add content more easily and without making mistakes. Learn this and more during our webinar!

What if you could get highly personalized and contextualized information tailored to your situation, location, and even mood?
As the informational response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Information 4.0 intends to do just that. It aims to offer new information paradigms that also call on technologies like artificial intelligence. We don’t yet have tools for all of this, but we can decide right now what we want them to do.
Join Ray Gallon, president of the Information 4.0 Consortium and The Transformation Society, to explore using molecular content to build customized information that will still need to make sense, hang together, be useful to users, and stay inside professional and ethical guidelines.
The webinar will leave plenty of room for Q & A so you can add your voice to the discussion!
