Why does a .metadata error appear when trying to launch the DITA CMS Eclipse Client?

This can be resolved by removing some corrupted Eclipse files.

Symptom

When starting DITA CMS, an Eclipse dialog box appears saying An error has occurred. See the <workspace>/.metadata/.log file.

Problem

The Eclipse workspace has been corrupted.

Solution

  1. Close DITA CMS.
  2. Delete the .metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.e4.workbench\workbench.xmi file from the workspace.
  3. Start DITA CMS.

To prevent this issue, IXIASOFT recommends closing all topics open in the oXygen Editor before exiting Eclipse.
