How do I locate a topic in a map?

You can use the Select In Map tool to expose the selected topic in the ditamap open in the DITA Map view.

Symptom

You have a topic open in the editor or selected in one of the views and you need to find its location in the ditamap open in the DITA Map view.

Problem

Finding a topic in the ditamap by expanding each node in the DITA Map view is tedious and potentially time-consuming in the case of a large or complex map.

Solution

You can use the Select In Map tool (Select In Map) to expose the selected topic if it is contained in the ditamap open in the DITA Map view.

To select the topic in the map:

  1. Open the ditamap in the DITA Map view.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Right-click the topic in one of the views and click Select In Map.
    • Open the topic in the editor and click Select In Map.

If the map contains the topic, the topic will be exposed and selected in the DITA Map view. If the topic does not appear in the map, no change will in occur in the DITA Map view.
