Copy ID

This procedure lets you copy a document's root ID.

Use Copy ID to copy a document's root ID to the clipboard. You can use this ID for searches.

In most cases the root ID is the file name without its file extension.

For example, a concept topic that has the following file name:
dit1143219004906.xml
would have the following root ID:
dit1143219004906
You can see this ID in the first few lines of the XML, if you open the topic in a text editor, e.g., <concept id="dit1143219004906">.

This function is available from all views.

To copy a document's root ID:

Right-click the file and select Copy > Copy ID from the menu.
The document's root ID is copied to the clipboard.
