Overview of the upgrade path to IXIASOFT CCMS 6.7

The following describes what needs to be updated when upgrading to IXIASOFT CCMS 6.7 from IXIASOFT CCMS version 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, or 6.6.

Note: The order presented in this guide for upgrading IXIASOFT CCMS components is the order recommended by IXIASOFT. However, after you upgrade TEXTML Server, CCMS Web, and the Content Store, you can upgrade the remaining components in whatever order best suits your deployment. For instance, you might have requirements that make upgrading IXIASOFT CCMS Desktop before CCMS Output Generator preferable.

In some situations, you might be able to defer upgrading some of the remaining components (such as CCMS Output Generator or CCMS Scheduler) until a later time while maintaining most functionality for IXIASOFT CCMS. Contact IXIASOFT Customer Support if you cannot upgrade all the components at one time.

Upgrading TEXTML Server

If your current version is CCMS 6.1, you need to upgrade TEXTML Server to at least TEXTML Server 4.4.1.5249. You can also update to TEXTML Server 4.4.1.5251 if you want the latest build.

If your current version is CCMS 6.2 or CCMS 6.3, you do not need to upgrade TEXTML Server to the latest build unless you want to.

Upgrading the build of TEXTML Server does not require any conversion or re-indexing.

Upgrading IXIASOFT CCMS Web

You need to update to CCMS Web 6.7. The Web Installer for CCMS Web 6.7 installs important mandatory configuration changes.

There are no new parameters in this installation, but there are some changes to keep in mind:

  • Starting in CCMS Web 6.0, a framework is no longer mandatory for your DTDs
  • Your existing frameworks and plugins are copied into a backup folder in the installation folder prior to the upgrade
  • You must manually reinstall your custom frameworks and plugins

Upgrading the Content Store

The Web Installer automatically handles all of the mandatory updates to the Content Store.

The only required update is updating the ixia.cms.version value for the system.

Note: There are optional configuration changes you should review and consider implementing, particularly changes to access rights in IXIASOFT CCMS Web because of new features.

Upgrading IXIASOFT CCMS Desktop

You need to upgrade to CCMS Desktop 6.7.

If you are upgrading from CCMS, you must update the eclipse.ini file to avoid timeout errors when generating output.

Upgrading IXIASOFT CCMS Output Generator

You must upgrade to CCMS Output Generator 6.7.

Some versions of CCMS Output Generator also require other configuration changes.

Version Changes
CCMS Output Generator 6.6 This version changed the version of Java® required. You must upgrade your deployment to point to a Java 11 JDK for CCMS Output Generator 6.6 and later.
CCMS Output Generator 6.2

There were also the following changes in IXIASOFT CCMS Output Generator 6.2:

  • Dynamic loading of output types and preprocessors configuration (no restart required)
  • A new plugin for MathML in FOP
  • Native support for SVG in FOP
CCMS Output Generator 6.1

This version introduced a new method for creating outputs. You must upgrade your conductor files to use this new method if you want to be able to do the following:

  • To generate output in CCMS Web
  • To create Approvals and Collaborative Reviews in CCMS Web
  • To use DITA-OT 3.x

If you still want to use older versions of DITA-OT, you can. The default DITA-OT version of CCMS Output Generator 6.7 is 2.5.4, and CCMS Output Generator works with all versions of DITA-OT though some versions may require a few additional changes.

If you are upgrading from CCMS 6.1 and you have SSL enabled on IXIASOFT TEXTML Server, there is a new SSL java property in the wrapper.conf file you must configure.

Upgrading IXIASOFT CCMS Scheduler

There are no mandatory configuration changes for CCMS Scheduler, but CCMS Scheduler templates do need to be manually updated to avoid issues with email notifications.
