Promote a document in a map

You can easily move selected documents and branches to a higher level in a map's hierarchy.

The map must be locked.

Use the buttons at the top of the DITA Map view and DITA Map Editor to promote documents within a map.

Note: If you move the parent topic of a sub-tree, all the child topics move with it.
  1. In the DITA Map view or DITA Map Editor, highlight the document you want to promote.
  2. Click the Promote one level button (Promote arrow icon).
    Tip: You can also use the shortcut keys CTRL+LEFT ARROW.

    In the pictures below, the highlighted topic on the left is a child of "Working with views and editors".

    In the picture on the right, it has been promoted one level.

Tip: You can use the CTRL+Z and CTRL+Y shortcut keys to undo and redo moves within a map.
