Adding a map template

A map template determines the structure of the map object created when a user creates a map. A map template consists of a DITA map source file, a short description of what the map should be used for.

This feature is designed to provide the structure for a particular document type. For example, if your team produces a User Guide, you can map out the structure for that document here, which may include such things as an introduction, list of features, procedures, and anything else typical for your User Guides. It can then be selected and "filled in" with appropriate content by writers and SMEs, or for more specific map additions by an Information Architect.

Note: This function is only available to those with Administrator access.

To create a new map template, do the following:

  1. From the Administration menu, click Templates, then Map Templates.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Pick a map type appropriate for the document.
    Available map types include:
    • bookmap: a comprehensive map type that includes appendices
    • map: a simple map structure
    • mapwithstubs: a map composed of "stub" topics, where the full structure of intended content is not yet known
    • referable_component_library: a map design specifically for holding content for conref-based reuse.
  4. Select the types of Roles that the map is applicable to.
  5. Click Save.
When a new map is created, the newly-created map type becomes an available option from the list of available templates.
