Adding a topic to the map

You can create new topics in maps if you need to add more content.

You must check out the map before you can add topics.

You can add a new topic to any map you can edit. New maps start completely empty, you have to add new topics to them.

To add a topic:

  1. In the Map Editor, find the topic that you want to add the new topic after.
  2. Beside that topic, click Plus symbol for the web author.
A dialog appears with two options for creating a new topic:
    • Same Level: This creates a new, "peer" topic at the same level. Use this for organizing things that have parallel structure, like separate chapters in a book, or topics talking about related subjects.
    • Sub Level: This creates a new, "sibling" topic one level below. Use this when you want to add information that is under a high-level topic, such as adding related articles under a high-level introduction within a chapter.
  3. Select one of the options.
  4. Enter a title for your topic.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Choose a template.
    Pick one of the following:
    • Concept: Use this when explaining core ideas and conceptual information.
    • Reference: Use this to provide information when facts need to be quickly looked up.
    • Task: Use this for procedures that requires step-by-step instructions.
    • FAQ Topics: Use this to provide step-by-step instructions for solutions to common problems.
  7. Click Create.
