Change the primary version of an object

The primary version is the version for which an object was initially created. You can change the primary version of an object if necessary.

This can be useful if you want to remove an object from its primary version, since the Remove From option does not allow you to remove an object from its primary version. In this case, you first change the primary version of the object to another version and then remove the object.

The object must belong to multiple versions, otherwise you will not be able to change its primary version. To see the versions that the object is already a part of, use the Information view. The current primary version of an object is highlighted in bold.

To change the primary version of an object:

  1. Right-click the object and select Dynamic Release Management > Change Primary Version.
The Select Primary Version dialog is displayed:
    Change Primary Version
The Primary Version drop-down list provides the versions to which the object belongs. When the current primary version of the object is selected, the OK button is disabled (shown above).
Note: If the following message is displayed instead of the Select Primary Version dialog, then this object belongs to a single version, so you cannot change its primary version:
There is only one version for the selected object. You cannot change its primary version.
  2. Select the new primary version from the Primary Version drop-down list and click OK.
The primary version is updated for this object.
