Check out an object

You must check out a map or topic before you can edit it.

Checking out an object opens an editing page, where you can edit the object.

When you check out an object, that also makes it unavailable to other users from working on it until you check it in. This maintains version control by only allowing one user to make changes at a time.

To check out an object:

  1. Find the object you want to edit.
If you are not already in Map View or Topic Preview, you can use sorting actions on the My Assignments page to help.
  2. Check out the object by doing one of the following:
    • On the My Assignments page, click Edit icon.
    • While in Map View or Topic Preview, click Edit .
    • For a topic while in Map View, click Edit icon .

The object opens in the editor for that object type. Any other user who sees the object will see that it is locked and unavailable.

Note: If you navigate away from the editor, the image, map, or topic remains checked out by you. It does not automatically check in.
