Create and add a new topic

In Map Editor, you can create a new topic and add a topicref to it in the map you have open.

The map must be checked out and open in Content view.

To create a new topic and add it as a topicref:

  1. Find the location where you want to add the new topic.
  2. Add the new topic by doing one of the following:

    1. Hover over the title of an existing topic.

      The mini toolbar appears.

    2. Click Create a new DITA topic and insert a reference to it icon.
    Right-click
    1. Select the location in the map where you want to add the new topic.
    2. Right-click and select Insert > Insert New Topic.

    1. Select the location in the map where you want to add the new topic.
    2. On the toolbar, click Create a new DITA topic and insert a reference to it icon.
  3. Enter a title for your topic.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Choose a template.
    Pick one of the following:
    • Concept: Use this when explaining core ideas and conceptual information.
    • Reference: Use this to provide information when facts need to be quickly looked up.
    • Referable-Content: Use this to setup elements as reusable components you can add to other topics as conrefs.
    • Task: Use this for procedures that requires step-by-step instructions.
    • Troubleshooting: Use this to provide step-by-step instructions for solutions to common problems.
  6. Click Create.
A new topicref is added to Map Editor for the new topic.
If you want to edit the new topic, click to open it and click Edit.
