Start the TEXTML Server service

This procedure describes how to start the TEXTML Server service on Windows.

To start the TEXTML Server service:

  1. Click the Start button and select Control Panel > Administrative Tools.
  2. Double-click Services.
The Services window opens (Figure 1).
  3. Right-click the Textml Server service in the list and select Properties.
  4. In the General tab, beside Startup type, select Manual and click OK.
Note: The Manual option is recommended when more than one instance of TEXTML Server is installed on a server (for example, in a cluster setup), because it ensures that the user controls which server instances are active. If this will be the only TEXTML Server instance on the server, you may prefer to leave the default option, Automatic.
  5. By default, the Textml Server service is running as the Local Service user. You must run the TEXTML Server service as another user if one of the following is true:
    • TEXTML Server is installed in a Windows cluster
    • The target directory for the backup is a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path (e.g., \\server_name\share_name)
    • Kerberos authentication is used and one of the following is true for your deployment:
      • There are multiple Active Directory Forests in the network, or
      • An Active Directory Forest includes many domains
If one of these conditions apply to your deployment, follow this procedure to run the TEXTML Server service as another user:
    1. Right-click the Textml Server service in the list and select Properties.
    2. In the Log On tab, select This account and click Browse.
      The Select User window appears.
    3. Enter the name of the user that will run TEXTML Server in the Enter the object names to select box and click Check Names.
      The username is underlined.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Enter the password for this user in the Password and Confirm password fields.
    6. Click OK.
If the following message is displayed:
The account <account_name> has been granted the Log On As A Service right.
Click OK. The following message may be displayed:
The new logon name will not take effect until you stop and restart the service.
    7. Click OK.
  6. Click Start the service.

Troubleshooting

If you get the following error message when attempting to start TEXTML Server:

Figure: Missing license error window

This message indicates that TEXTML Server cannot find its license:
  • If you did not obtain and activate your license, obtain it and try again.
  • If you obtained and activated your license, make sure that the file is saved in the correct directory (%ProgramData%/IxiaSoft/Licenses), under the correct name (IxiaLicense.ilf). Some email programs add the .txt extension at the end of the file, which prevents TEXTML Server from starting.
